“It is a case that we are denouncing with regret that several candidates are currently using children in demonstrations,” declared Philippe Bonane, spokesperson for civil society. This actor claims to have observed the presence of numerous children in the processions of the candidates. And he reminds that children cannot participate in political demonstrations given that they are still minors and do not understand anything about what is happening in politics. Because, according to him, it is a waste of time for them, and what's worse, it is as if their right to childhood is being stolen. “Let the children live their moments. Do not divert their childhood, for fear that they might one day regret it,” he pointed out.
“We are calling on every candidate who is running their campaign to stop using children. Really, it’s forbidden. That is why we are asking to no longer use children. We must respect the rights of our children as the law states,” he appealed in comments reported by Radio Okapi.
