DRC: The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, visits Kinshasa

Kinshasa15-04-2024Politics - In a statement that reached the editorial office of Digitalcongo.net on Monday, April 15, 2024, the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization of the Congo (MONUSCO) announced the visit of Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the invitation of the Congolese government.

During his visit, Volker Türk will meet with the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, and senior government officials. Then, still in the Congolese capital, he will meet with representatives of civil society, the National Human Rights Commission, members of political parties, and the diplomatic community.

He will also hold discussions with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the DRC, Bintou Keita, other senior officials of MONUSCO, and the United Nations Country Team.

After Kinshasa, Volker Türk will also travel to the east of the country, where he will visit camps for war-displaced people, before a series of meetings with human rights defenders and civil society organizations in the region.
