Cases of recurrent theft of field crops by unknown individuals have been observed for over three months in the Nzuma and Matembo neighborhoods, in the communes of Ruwenzori and Mulekera, in the city of Beni (North Kivu).

These incidents were reported to Radio Okapi on Wednesday, November 29, by the head of the Nzuma neighborhood, Josué Kapisa.

He listed, among others, cassava, peanuts, corn, beans, bananas, and cocoa, which are regularly stolen in this part of the city of Beni.

Josué Kapisa also called on his constituents to become aware and respect the property of others.

He issued a warning against the perpetrators of these acts:

“These cases must be documented. So, when there is such a case, we need to be informed so that we can see how to inform the competent services: the police, the ANR, to try to perhaps correct the person who has made the mistake in question. And apart from that, we found that we still need to review the awareness of the population, to show them that there is a principle that says: others deserve respect."

Josué Kapisa believes that it is also necessary to raise the awareness of the population of these two municipalities.

"That people may have the culture of respecting property that is not theirs. We would like everyone to know what their neighbor does, what their regular activities are, and maybe when we catch someone like that, they will feel the full force of the law," he added.
