The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has identified more than 160,000 displaced persons from Rutshuru who fled, last March, the M23 conflict to seek refuge in the southern part of the Lubero territory in North Kivu.

In addition to these displaced persons who have concentrated in the rural commune of Kanyabayonga and in the localities of Kaseghe, Mighobwe, Luofu, Miriki, and Mbughavinywa, there are nearly 100,000 others already present in the area since the last quarter of 2023.

Among them, there are numerous children, pregnant and lactating women who are in an emergency nutritional situation in the Kayina health zone.

This OCHA report states that these displaced people lack everything, notably: shelters, food supplies, water, hygiene, and medicines.

The document indicates that some of them suffer from severe and acute wasting, and others from global malnutrition. This situation is a concern for the OCHA office.
