In its decision from Friday, March 29, 2024, regarding the publication of the provisional list of governor candidates for the city of Kinshasa, the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) had dismissed the candidacy of Deo Kasongo, on the grounds that his application was submitted late. Consequently, in execution of its decision, the Kinshasa-Gombe Court of Appeal ordered the CENI to include the names of Deo Kasongo and his running mate, Guy Richard Malonga, on the final list of governor candidates for the city of Kinshasa.

Thus, Deo Kasongo will face off against the candidate from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), Daniel Mbumba Lubaki. Another candidate was also reinstated. This is Vidiye Tshimanga. It remains to be seen which candidate the provincial deputies will favor in a Provincial Assembly predominantly occupied by deputies from the Sacred Union for the Nation and especially from the UDPS. The indirect election of governors of Congolese provinces by the provincial deputies has often been full of surprises. The story of Adam Bombole and André Kimbuta in the 2006 contests remains enlightening.
