According to the president of the Don Bosco camp, Justin Kamana, the mother went to give birth in a health facility located in the Nyiragongo health zone, several kilometers away. “Maybe the conditions in which she left were not good, that's how she lost her life. It's a consequence of a problem we have at our Don Bosco site. Currently, we don't have a health partner,” he lamented.

He went on to say: “Before, we were with Save the Children, everything was going very well. After Save the Children, the IRC also came to support us, everything was going well, the prenatal, postnatal care, the mothers were well looked after.”

The displaced people of the Don Bosco camp lament the lack of adequate care for childbirth since the humanitarian partners ended their health projects a month ago, and the pregnant women who are displaced say they feel abandoned to their sad fate. They are calling for the swift intervention of the Government to prevent such loss of human life.

It is noteworthy that there are between 12 and 15 women who give birth each month at this site, which houses about 4,200 displaced households.
