“The mayor of Goma, senior commissioner Kapend Kamand Faustin has been informed of a potential march planned for this Monday 19/02/2024, starting from the Signers roundabout towards Sake by certain members of civic movements, advocacy groups, and youth structures from North Kivu with the aim of urging the government of the Republic to end the ongoing war and to encourage our armed forces as well as the population to resist against the enemy’s maneuvers”, wrote the mayor of the city of Goma.

However, this city authority has categorically refused this request to demonstrate.

“On this matter, he reminds the organizers that such activities are likely to distract the attention of the authority which is nevertheless focused on this unjustly imposed war on the DRC, that is why this demonstration is untimely and therefore forbidden, likewise, the population is invited to freely go about their activities”, he replied.

The mayor of the city of Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, also indicates that the security services have already been instructed to enforce this decision.

For the senior commissioner, Kapend Faustin, such activities are likely to divert the provincial attention which is nevertheless concentrated on the war unjustly imposed on the DRC.
