Socio-political actors from North Kivu, on Thursday, April 25, 2024, following a three-day workshop involving the local community in Goma, socio-political actors, and the provincial security committee, advocated for the creation of a security alert mechanism and a joint committee consisting of members of civil society to put an end to insecurity.
They also recommended the strengthening of arms control in Goma, in particular, through searches, targeted lockdowns, and patrols by the Military Police (PM) with the establishment of checkpoints.
Furthermore, they insisted on the need to rotate some units of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), such as the 11th main defense brigade called "Satan 2", based in Rusayu, Mudja, and Buvira in Nyiragongo territory, which they claim are involved in cases of insecurity.
They also spoke in favor of reinforcing military discipline and preventing the dispersal of war ammunition by restoring control over weapons and their depots, the prohibition, and suspension of illegal cells maintained especially by the Wazalendo militiamen, auxiliaries of the Congolese army.
