Agricultural and manufactured product prices are experiencing an increase in the market of the city of Idiofa, the administrative center of the territory bearing the same name.

For instance, a basin of maize which used to cost 1500 Congolese francs is now approximately 22000 Congolese francs (8 USD).

The price of cassava flakes, like that of chinchard fish, has doubled.

This increase also affects palm oil. The price of a 25-liter jerry can is now sold for 25000 Congolese francs, instead of 18000.

This surge in prices of these essential goods is observed in the market of Idiofa, even though there is no scarcity in the market. It also relates to chili peppers, vegetables, washing or toilet soap, firewood, salt, sugar, spices, etc.

The new Congolese civil society of the Idiofa territory justifies this price increase by the rise in the exchange rate of the US dollar and the existence of a private market in this city.

Its coordinator, Arsène Kasiama, is asking the Government to lower the US dollar exchange rate in order to reduce this tension that the local population experiences daily.
