The victims were initially registered, but when it came time to distribute the cash, their names were no longer on the lists, reports a member of the civil society.

This misappropriation of humanitarian aid intended for flood victims in the city of Kananga was denounced by the civil society of the same city, thus accusing the provincial minister of Urban Planning and Housing, who is coordinating the distribution of humanitarian aid.

The provincial minister of Urban Planning and Housing, Willy Wishiye, implicated in this matter, has stated that the victims were chosen by sampling from lists made by the municipalities. And that the central Government had decided to assist the victims through the National Solidarity Fund for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs.

Although they were registered on different lists at the municipality, during the cash handout, several victims say they did not receive this aid, even though they were clearly registered a few days ago.

It should also be noted that for this operation, three thousand victims were identified and that 1700 have already received their humanitarian aid. The remaining part will have to wait for the second installment coming from Kinshasa.

As a reminder, the operation was initiated following torrential rains that occurred on December 26, 2023, which swept away houses, killing about twenty people in the city of Kananga in the Central Kasaï Province.
