The governor of Ituri, Lieutenant General Johnny Luboya has issued a stern warning and condemnation on Wednesday, February 21st, regarding the failure of certain armed groups to respect the peace commitment acts they have signed.

In a press release, the head of the provincial executive cautions these armed individuals who are resistant to the peace process.

Lieutenant General Johnny Luboya is calling on them to stop targeting innocent, defenseless civilians and to give a chance to the ongoing peace initiatives, which have so far allowed a relative calm to be observed for several months in the territory of Djugu.

The governor's warning follows the resurgence of attacks and killings of civilians in this territory.

Through this statement, the governor of Ituri reaffirms the army's commitment to protect the population against these attacks.

In an exclusive interview granted to Radio Okapi, the spokesperson for the army in Ituri, Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, made this call to the militia:

“Stop killing each other over undisclosed interests with no future by getting rid of corrupt politicians who manipulate you in their quest for political positioning. Our advice is not to take justice into your own hands by allowing the Congolese State alone to hold the monopoly on the use of force and to administer justice.”
