According to the Congolese press agency (ACP) reporting the words of the military governor, the situation is untenable in the displacement camps. There are about 10 deaths per day due to epidemics and insecurity in the displacement camps.

"The North Kivu province currently has more than 2 million 700 thousand internally displaced persons who have fled the clashes between the FARDC and the M23 terrorists backed by Rwanda. With this massive influx of displaced people, the situation in the displacement camps around Goma is becoming untenable. We are recording about 10 deaths per day in the displacement camps due to epidemics and insecurity,” Major General Peter Cirimwami asserted on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

The continuation of fighting on the outskirts of the city of Sake and along other front lines in North Kivu could exacerbate the humanitarian situation. The Democratic Republic of Congo has more than 5 million internally displaced persons, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). "A total of 5.7 million people displaced within the provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri," the UNHCR spokesman Matthew Saltmarsh recently indicated.

Of these citizens, there are 1.3 million people who have been displaced due to violence in the eastern part of the country, mainly in North Kivu.
