“No detainee has been in prison without trial since 2017. 69 were released last time, 94 today, and 250 between the last time and today, 357 suspects released in one week. I am delighted because the Commission has added value to the ongoing release efforts. We have relaxed the criteria in an attempt to identify a sufficiently large number of people who must be released,” declared Firmin Mvonde Mambu, Attorney General at the Court of Cassation.

He added:

“The criteria have been relaxed to increase the number of prisoners to be released.”

Furthermore, PG Firmin Mvonde highlighted that cases that can be released are those where the victims are uninterested.

“These releases do not only concern beneficiaries of provisional liberty. The cases released are those where the victims are uninterested, cases where the accused have amended their ways, cases where we find that their release will not cause disturbance in social life,” he specified.

It should also be noted that an expatriate was among the detainees released Wednesday at Makala.
