The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the DRC, Bintou Keita, presented on Wednesday, March 27, during the quarterly meeting of the Security Council, the situation in this country.
More than 7.1 million people are internally displaced in the DRC, she declared, citing the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and reiterated her urgent call to donors and the international community to assist the populations in distress.
She also took advantage of her intervention to sound the alarm about the humanitarian disaster due to the escalation of the M23 crisis in North Kivu and spoke of the prolonged armed violence in this province and in Ituri.
