22 agents from the National Commission for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (CNC-ALPC) of Beni, in North Kivu, were trained this Thursday on the marking and tracing of illicit small arms and ammunition.

This was during a three (3) day training organized by MONUSCO with the objective: "to better fight against insecurity in the Beni region", which is a recurring target of attacks by armed groups.

During the sessions, the participants learned to identify and mark different types of weapons and ammunition.

Take the case of Christelle Safari, who explains all the benefits she gained from this training.

“I understood that there are several kinds of weapons and their origins. I am now able to identify a weapon and mark it, to go into the field and to know that the weapon comes from this or that country. Also to know if the weapon is illicit or not,” she explained.

For his part, Gervais Kambale Kasonia, another beneficiary, believes that thanks to this training, security could improve in the city of Beni.

“Now, we are properly equipped and we have combined theory with practice. We believe that the security in the city will be improved. We will be professional because before, we were working without any notion,” he indicates.

After the agents of the CNC-ALPC of Beni, the same training will be organized for the agents of the National Commission for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons of Butembo.
