International Women's Rights Day on March 8 will be commemorated this year under the sign of mourning in the city of Beni, North Kivu, announced on Thursday, February 29, the head of the Urban Office for Gender, Family, and Children, Ruth Sabuni, at the end of a meeting with various local women's associations.

According to Ruth Sabuni, this decision is an act of compassion with the populations affected by insecurity in this region.

However, non-festive activities are planned, asserts the head of the gender office of the city of Beni:

"In Beni, we have planned two major activities. Namely, the conference on March 5th, but also the ecumenical service to be held on March 8th. During these two days, we have agreed to dress in black. We implore the mothers to respect this behavior because in the month of March, the entire international community, why not our country, sympathizes with us who are the population of the East."

For Ruth Sabuni, "the particularity this time is the attitude of mourning that the women will observe, to think big in terms of what they can and must do to restore peace in their homes."
