Like each 16 January, the Mzee Laurent-Desiré Kabila Foundation organizes a ceremony of homage to Laurent-Desiré Kabila, third president of the democratic Republic of Congo in front of his mausoleum at Palais de la Nation.

This twentieth anniversary of his tragic death knew the participation of the Head of State, Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi. Meditation on the ground was preceded by a religious worship.

At the head of the Alliance of the democratic forces for the release of Congo (Afdl), Laurent-Desiré Kabila arrived in the power on May 17, 1997, by reversing the Marshal Mobutu and his 32 years of dictatorship.

Convinced nationalist and apostle of self taking care of Congolese, he will face, one year after, with a war of aggression which will have divided the country into several parts.

After his death, he will be replaced by his son, Joseph Kabila, who will succeed in reconciling all the belligerents and endowing the country with his first democratic Constitution in 2006.
