As recently announced, the President of Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, exchanged Friday, January 17, 2020 with Pope François at the Vatican

For this purpose, Pope François announced the Vatican support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo to fight insecurity and the massacres of the population in the East.

This official visit came after a private meeting, in Saint Peter’s Basilica, between the Congolese Head of State and the Holy Father, on the occasion of the consistory of the creation of 13 Cardinals including Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo.

The preparations for this tête-à-tête were announced during the audience that Félix Tshisekedi granted on Monday, January 13, 2020, at the Palais de la Nation, to Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo.

The two personalities discussed not only over the preparations for this visit, but also the Cardinal's last trip in the east of the country.

At Palais de la Nation, Cardinal took the opportunity to report to the Head of State on his bitter observations during his compassionate visit in the province of Nord Kivu, mainly in the territory of Beni and Butembo.

The Catholic prelate claimed to have found in this province a population traumatized by the horrors of war. For him, the enemies of the Republic have started a process of balkanization of this part of the Congolese territory.
