Presented to the lower house of parliament by the Minister of Finance, José Sele Yalaghuli, this loan bill signed between the International Development Association as a multi-sectoral project of nutrition and health will concern the provinces of Sud Kivu, Kwilu, Kasai and Kasai-central.

This fund aims to increase specific and sensitive nutrition interventions for children aged from 0 to 23 months as well as pregnant women in these parts of Congolese territory. The interest rate for reimbursement is 0.75%, for a maturity period of 38 years with a grace period of 6 years.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 42 per cent of children suffer from stunted growth, mostly due to malnutrition, totaling six million children, according to the World Bank. And far from diminishing, this figure increases every year. A situation that hampers the economic development of the whole country, explained last June, Jean-Christophe Carret, director of World Bank for DRC.
