The airline Qatar Airways might begin serving the Democratic Republic of Congo as early as June 2024. This is the desire expressed on March 5th in Doha, Qatar, by the Congolese authorities on the sidelines of this working visit by the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi.

"As for the agreement that we signed to grant traffic rights to Qatar Airways, we wished that this agreement would already be in application by June 2024 at the latest," affirmed the Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula. The latter is accompanying the head of state on this tour since its stage in Brussels.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, an aircraft crisis has been observed since the second half of the year 2023. Last September, the national airline Congo Airways had suspended its activities, due to the lack of operational aircraft. Congolese travelers were forced to turn to the sole African Company of Aviation (CAA) for travel from one city to another in this area of 2.345 million km². Despite the resumption of flights by Congo Airways with two leased aircraft, travelers still face difficulties in moving with respected schedules both at Congo Airways and with the operator CAA, which also does not have a sufficiently stocked aircraft fleet.
