These organizations cite the humanitarian and security disaster that is rampant in this region of the eastern part of the national territory as the reason. Moïse Hangi, a member of the citizens' movement Struggle for Change (LUCHA), has called upon the authorities to take notice of the extremely precarious situation that the stricken populations in the eastern part of the country are enduring and to address it. "We still ask the authorities to be able to reestablish state authority throughout the Republic, by dislodging the M23 terrorists from all the zones and settlements they occupy," they insisted.
The North Kivu province has seen millions of people displaced since the resurgence of the M23 rebellion, which is supported by Rwanda. These people are living in precarious conditions in certain camps or public schools.
