The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, returned to Kinshasa on Thursday after coming from Lomé in Togo and Nouakchott in Mauritania, announces the presidency of the DRC.

In Nouakchott, Mauritania as well as in Lomé, Togo, the Congolese Head of State had enriching exchanges with his counterparts about, particularly, the security situation in the Eastern DRC and the strengthening of bilateral relations with the aforementioned states, indicates the same source.

The source further specifies: "In Mauritania, President Félix Tshisekedi was reassured of the support of his Mauritanian counterpart and the current chairperson of the African Union, Mohammed Ould Ghazouani, in the security crisis in the Eastern DRC, during a face-to-face at the Presidential Palace, rounded off with an extended working session with their respective collaborators."

It continues: "Concerning the insecurity in the Eastern part of Congo, the Mauritanian President has promised his constant diplomatic support for the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes to restore peace and security. The two Heads of State also discussed the multi-sectoral bilateral cooperation between Congo and Mauritania." The same source explains: "They want to re-energize the bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of trade, fisheries, and education."

Contribution to the Improvement of the Living Conditions of Congolese

In Nouakchott, President Félix Tshisekedi met on Thursday with Congolese residents in this Northwest African country.

During these talks, which lasted one hour, the president of the DRC expressed satisfaction with the welcome extended by the diaspora. Informed about the living conditions of the Congolese in Mauritania, President Tshisekedi committed to contributing to the improvement of the situation, reports the Presidency on its account X.

In Lomé, the Presidents of the DRC and his Togolese counterpart, Faure Gnassingbé, had a nearly one-hour tête-à-tête during which, the Congolese Presidency emphasizes, they covered issues related to cooperation between their countries.

The Congolese Presidency highlights that "Presidents Tshisekedi and Gnassingbé discussed the necessity to continue and strengthen the historic fraternal bonds that unite their peoples."

To return to President Tshisekedi's visit in Mauritania, it was the first since his rise to power. He is the second President of the DRC to step on Mauritanian soil after Marshal Mobutu in 1973, it is recalled.

Félix Tshisekedi left Kinshasa on Wednesday for Lomé before heading to Mauritania for an official 48-hour visit.
