Members of the Congolese national police fired shots this Tuesday, November 28, to disperse youths who were throwing projectiles at the convoy of candidate Moïse Katumbi, in Kindu (Maniema).

According to sources on the ground, one person is believed to have died and others were injured in the chaos that ensued after the shooting.

This information has not yet been confirmed or denied by an official source in Maniema.

The same sources reported that the convoy of the president of the political party Ensemble pour la République continued its march towards the meeting place despite the disorder.

Well before the arrival of Moïse Katumbi, his party accused youths from the UDPS of having torn down the effigies of their leader.

Ensemble pour la République also accused the acting governor Afani Idrissa of sending law enforcement to arrest their campaign teams.

The acting governor denied these accusations and in turn stated that patrol officers caught supporters of Moïse Katumbi tearing down effigies of the outgoing head of state, a candidate for his own succession.
