For several days, clashes have been intensifying in the North Kivu province. The M23 rebels, who are fighting alongside the Rwandan army, have been attempting for over a week to capture the city of Goma. However, the Congolese army, backed by UN peacekeepers, is organizing a resistance around the town of Sake, located some twenty kilometers from Goma, the capital of North Kivu.

The origin of the dropped bombs remains unknown. Airport sources claim that the bombs are targeting the fighter jets, Sukhoi-25, stationed at Goma airport.

The Congolese authorities have still not made an official statement on this incident, which occurs while a mini-summit bringing together African heads of state is taking place in Addis Ababa to discuss the security situation in the east of the DRC. This mini-summit is attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who is accused of destabilizing the east of the DRC. It also includes Félix Tshisekedi and the Angolan Joao Lourenço, who has been appointed as a mediator by the African Union in this conflict.
