After several refusals, the Military Court of Kinshasa-Gombe has decided to grant the request of Salomon Kalonda whose health has significantly deteriorated in prison, according to various medical reports presented to the court. Moreover, he was admitted to a local hospital for appropriate care.

The military prosecutor had requested the expertise of 19 doctors, including those from the university clinic of Kinshasa and the general reference hospital of Kinshasa, formerly known as Maman Yemo, who established that Salomon Kalonda’s health indeed required good management. Several applications for provisional release had been rejected by the Military Court. The Provincial Assembly of Maniema even validated his mandate as an elected provincial deputy, following the elections of December 20, 2023.

Salomon Kalonda Idi had been arrested on May 30, 2023, at the N'djili International Airport in Kinshasa. Since his arrest, his lawyers have continuously contested the accusations against him. Kalonda is mainly accused of treason, conspiring with Rwandan officers, and complicity with the M23 rebellion. His team of lawyers is also challenging the legality of the procedure that led to his detention.
