"Insecurity is a brake on the development of a nation, which is why it is important for the youth of Ituri to avoid any form of manipulation by the enemies of peace who aim to destabilize the province," declared the police commander of Bunia city, Colonel Abeli Mwangu in an address to the youth, on Wednesday, February 28, during a parade in Bunia (Ituri).

This call follows tensions that are prevalent in the city after the death of 15 civilians, killed last week by a group of CODECO militiamen opposed to the peace process.

Colonel Abeli Mwangu urged the youth to adopt responsible behavior:

"The mindset of the population has been good recently, but there is a psychosis prevailing in the city, following the killings of civilians last week by CODECO militiamen in the Djugu territory. Thus, the city is in a state of psychosis, because we do not know the day when the burials will take place. I have sensitized the youth to adopt responsible behavior, to maintain an atmosphere of peace, so that we can dignify our brothers' funerals, who were cowardly massacred by enemies of peace."

He calls on the youth to have the same focus, which is that of peace.

"The language of peace, of security. You know, the security situation has become everyone's concern. We only have one country, it is pointless to continue manipulating youths day after day, leading to loss of life. In this situation, it is not going well. We must cultivate peace, love among communities, among people so that together, we can rebuild our country, and especially our province of Ituri, which has many assets for development," said the police chief of Bunia.
