The Ugandan government granted amnesty on Friday to 75 former terrorists from the group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) active in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, following their training in preparation for their reintegration into civilian life.

Brigadier General Félix Kulayigye, spokesperson for the Ugandan army, stated: "We have granted amnesty to 75 former ADF fighters including Congolese, Burundians, Tanzanians, and Ugandans. However, it is mostly Congolese who have completed training in various trades so that they can be useful in their home communities."

The Ugandan government, in collaboration with its partners, has been mentoring the former ADF rebels who surrendered or were captured during patrols conducted by the coalition of Ugandan and Congolese forces (UPDF-FARDC), he added, before promising: "Next week, we will hand over the Congolese, Tanzanians, and Burundians to their respective governments, each with a certificate of amnesty."
