Parliamentary activities resumed this Thursday, February 22, at the South Kivu provincial assembly.

They had been suspended for three weeks following a strike by the administrative staff of this deliberating body, who were demanding the payment of several months of salary arrears.

This resumption comes after negotiations between the strikers and the provincial government, as well as with the newly elected deputies, who have committed to recovering all the salary arrears of the administrative staff within a short period.

In his statement signed Wednesday, February 21, the director of the administration of the provincial assembly called for the resumption of all parliamentary activities, with priority given to the identification and registration, this Thursday, of the newly elected provincial deputies.

Therefore, the assembly will have to focus on the establishment of the age bureau and the permanent bureau to face the senatorial elections and those of the governors and vice-governors.

The South Kivu provincial assembly comprises 48 provincial deputies, including 44 elected members, and 4 co-opted customary chiefs.
