A second round must take place within 48 hours to break the tie between two candidates for the position of governor of South Kivu province, in accordance with electoral law.

The candidates are Jean-Jacques Purusi from the AFDC-A, who received 20 votes, and his challenger Emile Sumaili from the UNC, who received 15 votes.

Following the elections organized on Monday, April 29 in Bukavu, no candidate was able to obtain the absolute majority of 25 votes out of the 48 voters. To decide between those who received the same number of votes, the law requires that the eldest be proclaimed elected.

These elections for the positions of senators, governors, and deputy governors were organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday, April 29 in several provinces of the DRC, and the distinctive feature of this province is that no candidate managed to achieve the absolute majority of 25 votes out of the 48 voters.
