The Police have declared a period of courtesy from April 8 to 21 following the strike by taxi and taxi-bus drivers in the city of Bukavu in the South Kivu province.

A strike movement by taxi and taxi-bus drivers in the South Kivu city was triggered from April 9 to 11, to protest against police harassment on several road axes of this province.

Following this strike action, a courtesy period from Monday, April 8 to Sunday, April 21 was established in this city by the provincial commissioner of the PNC in South Kivu, General Roger Isiyo.

General Roger Isiyo also made the decision to remove twenty-two elements from the road traffic police on this axis.

For their part, the taxi and taxi-bus drivers point out that they deplore the way in which the road traffic police elements (in total more than 90) are deployed over a distance of 4 Km in the city of Bukavu.

This two-day strike initiated by the transporters' associations and other civil society actors from South Kivu penalized several people trying to go about their business, notably workers, schoolchildren, students, and others.
