The Senior Chief Commissioner and mayor of Goma, Faustin Kapend Kamand, proceeded on Wednesday, February 8, with the presentation of 44 alleged armed bandits to the city's populace.

These presumed bandits number over forty, among them are notably seven military personnel, five men and three women of Rwandan nationality who are in an irregular situation.

They were in possession of five AK47 rifles, one JP make firearm, three full magazines, two empty ones, two bulletproof vests, three parcels of hemp, drugs, and many other items.

The mayor emphasized that this arrest is the result of operations conducted by security services overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in the neighborhoods of Bujovu and Majengo in the commune of Karisimbi and asked the population to remain calm and to work in collaboration with the army to report any suspicious movements.

He also expressed a wish to multiply cordon-and-search operations in the city in order to put an end to the situation prevailing in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
