Before his appointment, the new army spokesperson in this area served as the spokesperson for the Eastern African Community (EAC) Regional Force until their withdrawal from North Kivu in December 2023. Reagan Mbuyi Kalonji holds a bachelor's degree in organizational communication from the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN). He is also a graduate of the Kananga Military Academy, also known as the Officers Training School (EFO).
His area of responsibility stretches from the Beni region through Butembo and Lubero in the North Kivu province. His predecessor, Anthony Mwalushay, was well-known to the media, particularly because of the high security news profile in this area, which is troubled by the Ugandan terrorist group ADF.
