The population of the city of Mbandaka in the Equateur province is calling on the provincial government for urgent intervention to aid those affected by the floods.

For several weeks now, the waters of the Congo River have flooded various neighborhoods, fields, homes, and public buildings in the city of Mbandaka in the Equateur province.

These areas include Bongondo, Ekunde, Socozelo, Petite-Ville, Cocoagri, Bokilimba, Basoko, Boyeka, and others.

Due to the rising waters of the Congo River, residents are abandoning their destroyed or flooded homes.

Witnesses report that some neighborhoods on solid ground are also flooded through storm drains and gutters that connect them to the river.

They highlight that due to lack of resources, some homeless individuals are seeking shelter in construction sites, with rent having skyrocketed as a result of the high demand for housing in the city.

They explain that this situation is also causing road closures, particularly on Eyala, Royale, Mobutu, Du Congo, and Bolenge avenues.
