Augustin Tagisabo, the head of the metrology division at Mettelsat, has warned the public about the rise of water levels due to an excess of rainfall of 20 millimeters, following heavy rainfall expected in the months of April and May across the entire territory of the DRC.

These rainwaters will cause landslides, erosion, as well as rising water levels, particularly in the cities of Kinshasa, Kalemie, Kabinda, Lusambo, Ilebo, Mbuji-Mayi, Kananga, Tshikapa, and Lubumbashi.

This situation is due to the intrusion of the Indian Ocean which brings the southeast trade winds and also the synoptic situation that is developing over the Indian Ocean, which penetrates the continent by crossing through the south of the DRC, beginning with Lubumbashi.

"We will have rising water levels in April, a period of excessive rainfall. There will be excess precipitation, the frequency of rains for the months of April and May, because April is the wettest month in the first half of the semester. There will also be a second semester in November. This latter will also be the wettest month particularly in the city of Kinshasa, in the west we are in the rainy season and we must expect water levels to rise, landslides, erosions in certain parts of the city notably in Kinshasa, Kalemie, Kabinda, Lusambo, Ilebo, Mbuji-Mayi, Kananga, Tshikapa, as well as the city of Lubumbashi," declared Augustin Tagisabo.

He further noted that this situation finds favorable conditions in Kinshasa, "it rises and crosses the city of Kinshasa, these are situations that are being conveyed throughout the country and in the southern part of the country giving this frequency of rain that is instantaneous with intervals," he pointed out.

"We have already recorded high amounts of rain, the quantity of precipitation can reach beyond 20 millimeters of water in the city of Kinshasa," he concluded.
