The day after the end of the election campaign, effigies and posters of the various candidates have already been removed from the public way and several strategic locations in the city of Beni (North Kivu).

The inhabitants of the city of Beni observed this Tuesday morning, October 19, that the public propaganda activities organized by the different competitors in the combined elections have also ceased.

Vehicles equipped with sound systems and loudspeakers that broadcasted messages and songs intended to magnify certain candidates no longer circulate on the streets of Beni since midnight.

Four hours before the end of the electoral campaign, unidentified youths roamed the streets and avenues of Beni to remove the posters and effigies of the candidates placed in various locations. However, they outright tore up paper posters.

This was the case at the Nyamwisi roundabout in Beni, which was chosen by the various candidates for campaign rallies and meetings. The same was true on Nyamwisi Boulevard, the main artery of the city, at the Matonge commercial center, and in some neighborhoods of the Mulekera and Beu communes.

According to several testimonies collected on the spot, large banners and their wooden supports may have been sold off during the night by these youths who removed them from the public way.
