Economic activities have been halted since Thursday, May 2, across the entire territory of Aru in the Ituri province following three days of lockdown decreed by the civil society of this part of the national territory.

According to witnesses, stores, shops, gas stations, and markets have been closed since Thursday morning in the major conurbations of this territory, such as Aru, Ariwara, and Ingbokolo.

Similarly, this situation has had repercussions, including a decrease in traffic between this part of the Ituri province and the neighboring territories of Mahagi in Ituri, and Watsa and Faradje in the Haut-Uélé province.

These lockdown days were decreed to protest against the increase in crime in the region. The civil society of Aru mentioned in a memo addressed to the Territory Administrator on Tuesday the case of a child murdered by a bullet and the abduction of two others by unidentified armed men.
