When asked about the likelihood of Cardinal Ambongo being put on trial following the directive given by the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation to the Attorney General at the Matete Court of Appeal to open a "judicial invalidation" against the head of the Catholic Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly for spreading "false rumors", Isidore Ndaywell did not mince his words. "In my opinion, I don't think the cardinal will go to trial. I see that since this letter was issued, it has remained just a letter. Nothing has gone beyond this letter," Professor Ndaywell stated. He believes it to be a letter of intent, reminding us of the agreement recently signed between the Holy See and the Congolese state.

Regarding the statement that earned the cardinal the wrath of the regime currently in power in Kinshasa, a statement that Félix Tshisekedi described as "propaganda in favor of Rwanda" during an interview with the French media Le Figaro, Isidore Ndaywell offered a measured view. "His speech (of the cardinal) leads to say that the National Episcopal Conference of Congo condemns the rebellion, the violence, as he just did for what happened in Mugunga (Goma)."

For this renowned history professor in the DRC, "the cardinal wanted to say that there are also faults that are our own. I believe such a statement is not to the President's liking. Here we are indeed in the presence of a conflictual situation. But, one must not overstate things when there are mishaps, especially since there has recently been a framework agreement between the Holy See and the Congolese state."
