Canada wishes to offer its expertise in the construction of correctional facilities in the DRC. Its ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mrs. Maryse Guilbeault, specified on Wednesday following a meeting with the Congolese Minister of Justice, as mentioned in a statement from this ministry: "We discussed a lot about the construction of correctional facilities. I call it cooperation or business relationships that are expanding where Canada might have expertise that would be useful to you in the construction of such highly specialized facilities."

The statement also adds that Mrs. Maryse Guilbeault continued: "It’s a unique niche and we have the expertise and the capacity. So, if we can be useful to one another, it’s to the advantage of both countries to collaborate on a commercial and economic level. I leave it to the minister to determine what the steps are; it’s a process internal to the DRC but if we can become a partner, we are pleased to do so."

And to assert: "We had various files we wanted to discuss, as many files on commercial opportunities, specifying that for the DRC, Canadian companies are interested for instance in the construction of new correctional facilities."
