The new Congo will be based on republican, moral and evangelical values, said bishops members of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) in a message read Monday to the press by his secretary general, Father Donatien Nshole, at the end of the 56th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of CENCO. "The country greatly needs new and honest men," says the message, "Free My People, No Obstacles to Change".

According to the bishops, this message was made in order to contribute to the advent of a united, just, prosperous and united Congo. They affirmed that a radical change in personal, social and political behavior could bring a new way of managing the Republic, starting from the fact that the crisis in the country is above all ethical.

CENCO, Fr. Donatien Nshole said, welcomed the first acts of the new President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, including the opening of the political and media space, the release of political prisoners, the return to the country of political exiles and the launch of the 100 days program.

For her, these facts reflect her desire to adhere to the change desired by the people who had expressed in the elections of December 30, 2018, the desire to break with the former system of governance in order to make the DRC a strong and prosperous country, to put the army in the conditions that allow it to respond effectively to its mission to defend and safeguard unity and the integrity of the national territory and to restore the image of the Judiciary, particularly that of the Constitutional Court, so that the people have confidence in justice. For this purpose, CENCO urges the President of the Republic to play his full role and asks the Parliament to really be at the service of the people by passing laws that promote democracy, especially that relating to the revision of the electoral law with a view the depoliticization of the CENI.

Concerning the future government, the bishops recommended putting at the center of its action, the improvement of the living conditions of the population, especially in the sectors of education, health and infrastructures.

In this regard, they put particular emphasis on the regularization of the salary situation of teachers as well as the free education promised by the Head of State. CENCO also called for the establishment of a committee to fight against corruption and for the depoliticization of the judiciary.

The message of the CENCO also recommends to the Congolese people to gather, to assume their destiny and to resolutely put themselves at work for the integral development of the country while claiming and defending peacefully its rights.
