In a correspondence issued on June 13th and made public yesterday, the number 2 of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) officially transmitted his resignation to the National President of the People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), political party that appointed him in November 2015. According to Norbert Basengezi Katintima, this early withdrawal will allow his party to already facilitate the designation of his possible replacement.

This resignation comes almost two weeks from the expiry of the term of office of the members of the office of this civic institution, scheduled for June 30, 2019. At the moment negotiations are underway to fix the composition of the members of the new team of the Central Electoral. It is not yet known whether this framework will be made of the mixture between the political actors and the delegates of the Civil Society, or all exclusively members of the Civil Society.

In the opinion, one wonders about the real motives which pushed Norbert Basengezi to precipitate his resignation, whereas all the office of the CENI is already considered to have resigned, since end mandate.
