Ninety-four (94) health workers have been diagnosed with Ebola virus disease of whom, thirty-three (33) have died since the beginning of the epidemic in Nord Kivu and Ituri provinces. Northeastern DRC, reports the Ministry of Health in a statement on the epidemiological situation of this disease reached Friday at ACP.

According to the source, two health workers are among the fifteen new confirmed cases of Ebola recorded in the day of Thursday, May 2, 2019. There were Thursday seven new cases in Katwa, three in Musienene, two in Butembo, one in Mabalako in Nord Kivu and two in Mandima in Ituri.

The Ministry of Health also reports that 10 new confirmed case deaths were reported on the same Thursday, including seven community deaths (two in Katwa, two in Butembo, two in Musienene and one in Mabalako) and three deaths at treatment centers. Since the outbreak of Ebola on 1 August 2018, the cumulative number of cases is 1,510, of which 1,444 are confirmed and 66 are probable. In total, there were 994 deaths (928 deaths of confirmed cases and 66 deaths of probable cases) and 421 people cured. Currently, 286 suspected cases are under investigation. The data presented in this table are likely to change at a later stage, after extensive investigations and after redistribution of cases and deaths in their respective health zones.

According to the Ministry of Health, the rVSV-ZEBOV vaccine manufactured by the pharmaceutical Merck group remains the only vaccine used in this epidemic after its approval by the Ethics Committee in its decision of May 19, 2018. As a result, the DRC has already vaccinated 109,844 people including care providers, contacts and contacts of patients.
