The meeting is part of the Addis Ababa Declaration on Immunization. It aims to draw attention to the commitment of African Union (AU) Member States to continue their investments in vaccination programs on the continent.

Jointly organized by the Regional Office of the World Health Organization for the African Region and the Department of Social Affairs of the AU Commission, the conference's objectives are to raise public awareness of the benefits of immunization. ; launch the campaign to accelerate the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality in Africa (Carmma); popularize the annual week Africa Vaccination by Member States as well as the AU health policy documents: Africa Health Strategy (2016-2030), Maputo Action Plan (2016-2030) ; review the Regional Nutrition Strategy for Africa (2016-2025).

In addition to these objectives, speakers will also be asked to draw attention and share experiences on immunization, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health issues between various governmental and non-state actors of high level.

The international meeting will also demonstrate the need for continued investment in immunization programs in Africa and celebrate national achievements in reducing the number of maternal, newborn, child and maternal and adolescents deaths; and finally to ensure respect for sexual and reproductive rights during the period of sustainable development, as well as the implementation of the first ten years of Africa's Transformation Agenda 2063.
