During an informal dinner that was not planned on the Kenyan Environment Summit's agenda, Uhuru Kenyatta and Emmanuel Macron clearly asked Felix Tshisekedi to distance himself from his predecessor Joseph Kabila. This is what our colleagues of RFI and La libre Belgique said in their editions of yesterday Thursday.

According to the two media quoting various sources, the two Heads of State have passed the same message to their Congolese host. "You must free oneself from Joseph Kabila's tutelage." However, Felix Tshisekedi who heard the words of his two homologues, would have given them no immediate response. "Felix Tshisekedi made no commitment to this meeting. His situation is very complicated", mentions Libre Belgique which reports one of its sources. And to add: "But he must send pledges and show that the country is on the road of a real alternation and that it is not a puppet in the hands of the Kabila clan".

Moreover, the same sources points out that in Nairobi, Kenyatta and Macron shared the same reading of the political situation in DR Congo. Namely the post-electoral environment. "The results of the presidential election of December 30 are disputed and contestable. But we must move forward. Because, there will be no return to the polls. No question for now to call for new elections as the Martin Fayulu claims.

However, Emmanuel Macron, who reassured his interlocutors about the Elysee's position on this issue, said he expected Felix Tshisekedi, the opening of a constructive dialogue with the UN on the future of MONUSCO whose mandate is supposed to be renewed during this month of March. For the French president, this is a major concern for his country, considering the security situation in eastern of DR Congo.

At the same time as they ask Felix Tshisekedi to distance himself from Joseph Kabila, Uhuru Kenyatta and Emmanuel Macron advise their Congolese homologue to give pledges of his power. Among these guarantees, the two presidents support the need to act vis-à-vis the Lamuka camp, the platform that supported the candidacy of Martin Fayulu. On this specific point, Emmanuel Macron would have also put on the table, the possibility of an opening Government that includes members of the Opposition, led for the moment by Martin Fayulu. Vis-à-vis the European Union, this is the reopening of the Schengen House...
