The Commercial Court of Kinshasa / Gombe, sitting in economic matters, referred to three weeks, the case between the consumers on the one hand, and the economic operators operating in the communications sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo, on the other hand. This lawsuit follows the Internet shutdown on December 31, 2018, which caused damages and losses to consumers.

The reasons for this referral are inter alia motivated by the constitution of the defenses raised by the assigned party, with a view to get ready a pleading within the time fixed by law in the area of trade in the DRC.

For Me Georges Kampiamba who represents consumers, expects that they are restored to their law, and that the damage suffered during this period of cut are repaired. He believes that the lack of access to the internet has slowed down the activities.

As a reminder, the Regulatory Authority for Posts and Telecommunications in the DRC (ARPTC), had interrupted the provision of Internet service, to avoid all forms of speculation around the presidential, legislative and provincial elections’ results of 30 December 2018 by malicious people, and thus allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to publish these results in serenity.
