The Embassy of Japan in the Democratic Republic of Congo granted on Thursday, April 25, a donation of 100 books from the "Nippon Foundation" to the University of Kinshasa (Unikin).

A press release from this diplomatic mission announces that it was the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Ogawa, who handed these books to the rector of Unikin, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe, during a courtesy visit.

These books cover various fields related to Japan, as part of the "Read Japon Project," adds the same source.

According to the Japanese ambassador, this visit paves the way for other opportunities for collaboration and cooperation between his country and UNIKIN. UNIKIN, he reminded, has within it many former students of Japanese universities, such as Professor José Lami, former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and one of the founders of the Association of Former Japanese Scholarship Holders living in the DRC, who continues to maintain the link between Japan and the DRC each year.

He invited the future users of these books to take good care of them so that they may serve those who wish to immerse themselves in the quest for understanding contemporary Japan.

For his part, the rector of UNIKIN called for a strengthening of the already existing collaboration between Japan and his institution, especially in the fields of training and research. This donation of books is a precious gift that should serve from generation to generation, he wished.
